Budapest International College (BIC)
About Budapest International College (BIC):
Budapest International College (BIC) provides foundation programs for engineering, IT, and business studies in Hungary. The institution has a continually expanding network of partner universities known for their prestigious Bachelor’s and Master’s programs.
Their partner universities are John von Neumann University, University of Dunaújváros, Kodolányi János University, and Óbuda University. In partnership with BIC these universities offer bachelor and master programs in IT, Engineering and Business.
Additionally, if you possess the required skills to commence a university program, BIC assists in facilitating direct access to any of their partner programs.
Presently, both the BIC Foundation programs and the BIC office are situated at the CEU Residence & Conference Center. This facility accommodates numerous international students and serves as a hub for various international organizations and educational institutions.
The building is well-suited for the lifestyle of international students, offering not only classrooms and dormitory rooms but also amenities such as a restaurant, cafeteria, bar, study rooms, sports courts, a pool, a wellness area, and a gym.
Hungary is home to universities with a rich historical background, coupled with reasonable living costs, rendering it an exceptional choice for pursuing higher education.
Budapest, the capital city with a population of 2 million, is divided into two distinct sides: the scenic Buda, characterized by hills, and the lively Pest, known for its bustling atmosphere.
The iconic Danube River flows between them, adorned with beautiful bridges and riverbanks. Renowned globally for its captivating history, vibrant nightlife, cultural hubs, and, notably, a wealth of outstanding thermal baths, Budapest offers a diverse and appealing experience for students.
BIC Partner Universities:
John von Neumann University (JNU):
Established in 2016 by merging three other institutions, John von Neumann University is now one of the biggest universities in southern Hungary. Its predecessor, the Engineering College of Kecskemét, started in 1964.
The university is in the charming town of Kecskemét, just a 40-minute drive from Budapest. Kecskemét is a growing city with a strong business background, experienced teachers, and a modern campus. Students at the university learn in modern buildings with good facilities, including labs, libraries, and training spaces.
To help students transition smoothly to the job market, the university constantly works with local companies. This ensures students are well-prepared for their future careers.
University of Dunaújváros (UOD):
The University of Dunaújváros is in the charming town of Dunaújváros, about an hour from Budapest. It’s a regional hub for innovation and aims to be Hungary’s top center for nuclear technology training, thanks to its proximity to the country’s largest nuclear plant.
The university has a history dating back to the 1950s but went through a major upgrade in the early 2000s. One significant change was the construction of a new campus at the start of the millennium. This campus has 15 buildings with modern classrooms, lecture halls, a public library, professional labs, sports facilities, and newly renovated student hostels.
The university’s labs are top-notch, some supporting hands-on learning and others focused on research and development in collaboration with key local industries.
Kodolányi János University (KJU):
Kodolányi János University is one of Hungary’s biggest private universities. It started in 1992 and offers various programs. It was an early partner with the Bologna Informatics Corporation (BIC) for its Computer Science Operational Engineering Bachelors (BPROF) program.
Since 1998, it’s also in Budapest, the capital city. With over 3300 students and 170+ international partners, KJU has an excellent track record — more than 90% of its grads find jobs within six months.
KJU wants to be a top European university. It readies students for successful careers through specialized courses and interdisciplinary programs focusing on the digital, sustainable economy, and inclusion in the 21st century.
In all its programs, meeting international standards with work experience and recognized credit points, KJU aims to be Hungary’s leading cooperative higher education institution.
Óbuda University (ÓU):
Óbuda University, named after a part of Budapest, is the top practical tech university in the city, Hungary. It started in 2000 by merging three polytechnical institutes as Budapest Tech. With a rich history of 130 years in engineering and applied sciences, Óbuda University is now globally recognized for its science, education, research, and innovation. The faculty consists of experts with vast experience in teaching and research, offering students a high-quality, hands-on education to become skilled research and tech management engineers.
With 12,000+ students, Óbuda University is one of Hungary’s largest tech universities. It earned university status in 2010. Spread across 6 campuses, 7 faculties, and 3 doctoral schools, the university hosts over 500 international full-time students. It’s famous for its excellent engineering and IT programs, especially in robotics, where it leads the Central European Living Lab for Intelligent Robotics (CELLI), a network of 18 robotics centers and SMEs across 7 countries. It’s also a member of euRobotics aisbl and is actively involved in various Topical Groups.
In 2022, Óbuda University achieved significant rankings:
- 186th in the QS EECA ranking
- 301–350th in the Times World University Rankings/Young University Rankings It was also recognized as the best university in Hungary for IT, Engineering, and Tech, according to the Times subject rankings.
