Programs at Lowell High School Canada

BC Dogwood Diploma Program:

The curriculum for this program at Lowell High School supports personalization and flexibility of learning. To fulfill the criteria for graduation and receive a British Columbia Certificate of Graduation, also known as the Dogwood Diploma, students must earn a minimum of 80 credits (52 mandatory credits and 28 elective credits). Out of these 80 credits, a minimum of 16 credits must be at the Grade 12 level. Upon graduation from grade 12, students will receive their BC Dogwood Diploma which is certified by the BC Ministry of Education.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program:

The IB Diploma Program is a two-year educational program designed for students between the ages of 16 and 19. This program follows a specific model that organizes the six subject group options, such as Language and Literature, Sciences, and The Arts, along with three additional components known as the “CORE components.” These CORE components are essential for students to earn the IB Diploma Program Certificate. Throughout the two-year duration of the program, students study six courses simultaneously and undertake both internal and external assessments. The “CORE components” of the program involve certain requirements for students, including:

• Crafting an independent research paper known as the Extended Essay, which consists of 4000 words and focuses on a topic that personally interests and aligns with their academic pursuits.
• Enrolling in a course called Theory of Knowledge, which spans approximately 100 hours and encourages students to explore diverse aspects of knowledge, including its generation, purpose, and evolution over time.
• Engaging in the Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) program for 18 months. This program aims to enhance students’ personal and interpersonal growth by involving them in academic, artistic, athletic, and service-oriented activities.

Cultural Exchange Program: 

Lowell High School offers a variety of exchange options for international students interested in balancing academic learning with fun-filled activities and cultural experiences.

1. The one-year exchange program offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the BC graduation program by studying its courses for an entire academic year. In addition to the academic advantages, participating students gain a broader perspective on Canada and the world upon their return.
2. Through the Short-term Exchange Program, students from diverse cultural backgrounds have the chance to experience studying in Canada as visiting students. These exchanges can vary in duration, ranging from 4 weeks to one semester, and are offered throughout the school year.
3. Winter and Summer Camps are specifically designed for international students who desire a combination of English language instruction and immersive cultural experiences. These camps offer a well-rounded approach where students concentrate on developing all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) during morning classes. The afternoons and weekends are dedicated to exciting and captivating activities and outings, allowing students to fully engage and experience the local culture.

Admission Requirements 

1. Academic Requirements: Applicants must submit their official transcripts or academic records. If these documents are not in English, they must be translated and officially certified.
2. Supporting Documentation: A copy of the applicant’s passport, a digital passport-size photo, and a single-page personal statement (150 words minimum) must be submitted in addition to the application form.
3. Interview: Candidates are required to participate in an interview, which will be arranged by the Admissions Office once the application has been reviewed. It’s important to note that interviews will only be scheduled once the application and all supporting documents have been received in their entirety.

Tuition, Fees, and Refund Policy

Tuition and Fees: 

1. Application Fee (non-refundable): $300 CAD
2. Program Tuition: $23,100 CAD annually
3. School Uniform Fee: $650 CAD
4. Contingency Fee Deposit (refundable): $200 CAD
5. Medical Insurance: $400 CAD
6. Transportation Fee (Compass Card): $660 CAD
7. Grade 12 IB Diploma Exam Fee: $1,300 CAD
8. Student Support Service Fee: $2,700 CAD
9. Homestay Fee (Full Board, 10 months): $16,000 CAD

Refund Policy: 

If an international student’s visa application is declined by a Canadian Embassy outside of Canada, they will be eligible for a refund of the full prepaid tuition fee, excluding a processing fee of $600 CAD. To initiate the refund process, the student must provide the completed Tuition Refund Request Form along with the mandatory original letter of rejection.
